Calvin has over 30 years in negotiations and conflict management consultancy. He has coached, consulted and advised in a variety of settings including; government and corporate disputes, oil, gas and energy sectors, law offices, change management, contracts, labour, complex community engagements, protests, family crises, workplace, indigenous communities, criminal and terrorist incidents, conflict zones and peacekeeping operations. This background and experience, coupled with his unique world-class training, has provided Calvin with the foundation to take on some of the most difficult and complex negotiation and conflict challenges.
As a former executive, he has worked in high risk and stress environments which provides clients with a unique lens, insight and service. Before co-founding the Negotiations Collective, he had held positions in the public sector, including the federal government advising and coaching on community, oil, gas, and other natural resource and indigenous related disputes. He also was a negotiator / mediator in the United Nations in conflict zones, a team leader for the Provincial Community and Aboriginal Conflict Management Team, and Team Leader of Canada’s national ‘International Negotiation Group’, which supported Canada’s response to negotiations with terrorist and extremist groups. He has coached and advised diplomats, NGO’s, politicians, executives, security officials, law firms, companies, military, families and business leaders.
Calvin has worked throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Central / South America. Calvin holds a BA in Justice in Law Enforcement from the University of Winnipeg, BA (Honours) with a Major in Law from Carlton University and a Master of Law (LLM) specializing in ADR/Negotiations from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. He is also a trained Crisis Negotiation specialist and certified by Scotland Yard and the FBI as a hostage negotiator. He often is a guest lecture at various universities, including a member of various advisory boards and think tanks in these fields.
